There is an underground world away from the sunlight called Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Here in southeast New Mexico, there is an incomparable realm of gigantic subterranean chambers, strange cave formations, and incredible structures.
There are features like, stalactites, stalagmites, soda straws, columns, draperies, flowstone, popcorn, cave pearls and aragonite crystals. Millions of years ago, this cave has been created and decorated, drop by drop, with water and sulfuric acid.
We took a couple of ranger-guided chamber tours to see the 8.2 mile Big Room, Kings Palace, Giant and Twin Domes, and many more. One of the tours we wore helmets with lights. Alisa was extremely nervous since we had to climb down several steep ladders and through a few narrow passages. Fortunately, we came out of the cavern and into the sunlight unharmed.
