Not far from Los Angeles, California, five islands, their submerged lands, and the waters with one nautical mile of each island are protected as Channel Islands National Park. There are over 2000 species of animals and plants. Surprisingly, 145 are found nowhere else on Earth.
We thoroughly relished taking the boat ride to Santa Cruz Island and smelling the salty breezes. After we got off the water and hiked this unfamiliar land, the tranquility of this park quickly became paradise. The sounds of the birds and the rhythmic wash of waves help erase all of our tension and tribulations.
