Virgin Islands

Canceled December 28, 2012

Because Virgin Islands National Park is in St. John, it was not simple to get there. First, we drove to Miami, Florida from Charlotte, North Carolina. Second, we flew to St. Thomas in the Caribbean. Third, we took a taxi to the ferry boat dock. Fourth, we took the ferry to St. John USVI. Finally, we took another taxi to our lodging at the Cinnamon Bay campground.

This tropical paradise was full of warm breezes, soft ocean waves, and a coral reef alive with wildlife. Snorkeling was a treat and at Trunk Bay we enjoyed the Coral Reef Trail (a trail underwater). We hiked 5 miles across the island to Reef Bay, snorkeled, and hiked it back.

Our favorite moments were watching all the fish, following a turtle swimming, seeing a stingray and large eagle ray. Luke loved playing with the hermit crabs and Winston was shocked at the numerous large spiders in the middle of the island. Alisa preferred the sunshine and warm water. Bill was inspired by the clear water, lack of noise pollution, and peaceful time together as a family.
