Yellowstone was the first official American National Park and is extraordinary. There are more geysers here then anyway on Earth. Huge volcanic eruptions created the geysers, hot springs and mudpots. The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, magnificent waterfalls, crystal clear lakes, and abundance of wildlife makes this park one of the best places in the world.
We were witness to the beautiful wildflowers, elk, wolf, coyote, bison, and grizzly bears. Hiking was ecstasy as well as a little dangerous. We climbed over 10,000 feet, soaked in a natural hot spring along a river, and saw animals we had never seen before. Watching old Faithful erupt was one of the many highlights.
Our lodging was in Montana, just north of the park, which is in Wyoming. We spent over 12 hours per day in the park. We had picnics, challenged ourselves with hiking distance and altitude, and participated in a wonderland that only a visit to this park can express.
